As petrol prices increase, which is inevitable because it is now publicly acknowledged that we have gone beyond peak oil, the cost of EVERYTHING is going to rise and shortages, particularly of food, are inevitable. This is already happening. As individuals, we are the only ones who can guarantee our own food security and the number of people who are already doing this is far too small. Growing your own food is not just something you can just do. It is not just a matter of planting a couple of punnets of lettuce and broccoli and waiting for them to produce something you can eat. Growing nutritious fresh food requires knowledge and a variety of skills.
Bev and Geoff Buckley have a plan to help people become self sufficient in food. They have set up a Community Farm and are looking for a few people interested in participating.
The Buckley's farm is an existing well established profitable operation that is just over one hour's drive from Brisbane and half an hour from the Gold Coast.
The Buckleys grow a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. They have over 500 trees producing avocados, tamarillos, limes, citrus of all kinds, figs, blueberries, paw paw, macadamias, custard apples, sapote, and mulberries. They have over an acre of irrigated vegetable gardens which produce a wide range of vegetables:broccoli, cabbage, spring onions, carrots, beetroot, peas, beans, kale, silver beet, asparagus, cauliflower, lettuce. They grow rhubarb, Jerusalem artichokes, ginger, garlic, coriander and strawberries. They are expert farmers. This has been demonstrated by the awards they have won and the recognition they have gained.
In their vegetable gardens they have planted 3 crops per year for 15 years, which is totally wrong according to most garden gurus. The proof of the fact that it isn't wrong, provided you know what you are doing, is that the soil in those gardens is as near perfect as anyone would want. They know, because they test every year.
They have a 15% level of organic matter, and a balanced calcium/magnesium ratio. They have few problems with pests and diseases and they do nothing to prevent them because they know that healthy plants, growing in healthy soil do not get diseases and are not attacked by pests.
This hasn't happened over-night. It has taken many years to get it right and it is this knowledge that the Buckleys are prepared to share with anyone who wants to know. It is what everyone will have to do if we are going to make food production a viable, sustainable, profitable enterprise.
Now for the good news.
The Buckley's want to share their knowledge and expertise. They want people to become food self-sufficient because they strongly believe it is the only way for the future and is something that can make a HUGE difference.
The Buckley's have started up a COMMUNITY FARM. For those people who become part of this project this will mean having the opportunity to:
If, after three or more months, they wish to continue farming their own, FREE area of land and SHARE IN THE BOUNTY FROM THE WHOLE FARM, they will have the opportunity to do so. There will be conditions.
For people to qualify for on-going involvement it will be necessary to:
This will totally change your life.
